Create excellent art that mirrors the depth and truth that is humanity by exploring all the perspective, solving the previously unsolvable, and pushing yourself harder than anyone else can.

Origins

Founder and President Alexander McPherson grew up with special effects and prosthetics in his blood. His father, Alistair McPherson, worked at Pinewood and Shepperton studios in London. At the age of 14, Alexander took his first apprenticeship in the industry. He studied both special effects and beauty makeup diligently, until, at the age of 19, he department headed his first feature film. In 2014, Prestige Makeup and Effects was born.

After years department heading, Alexander saw the value in approaching the visual transformation process of the performer as a holistic, trifold balance. See MISION.

"Prestige Makeup & Effects is one of the best companies I’ve ever worked with.  They have excellent attention to detail and the service you receive is second to none... I know if I hire them 1) I get the most professional and focused Makeup Artists in the industry and  2) My stress as a Producer goes down because I don’t have to think about the department again for the entire shoot." - Justin Tolley, Producer

Values

  • Story. One of the most powerful tools for change is Story. Stories have the power to change lives, inspire generations and uncover deep truths that can have unfathomable impact.

  • Empowerment. Filmmakers must be empowered to translate their vision into reality. Actors, performers and public speakers must be empowered by giving them the confidence that they look the part and the belief in themselves necessary for success. The next generation of young artist must be empowered to achieve their intentions by providing them with the setting and the tools to achieve them.

  • Process. Hard work and imagination are the tools needed to succeed, the result is what's judged. If you enjoy your work, the result is a bonus. If you’re not satisfied with the product, change the method. The only way to change the result is to change the process.

"It's still surprising how often Alexander’s complete knowledge of the process, on both sides of the camera, has saved our films: A single solution to keep our movie stars happy, our lens capturing the best looks, and at a moment's notice - impromptu special effects looks that transform whole scenes. It doesn't hurt that his 'producer's knowledge' helps us stay efficient and practical, while coming across as big-budget." - Charles Landers, Director/Procuder

Mission

The mission goes beyond the mechanics:

  • Business Proficiency. Anticipate the needs and exceed the expectations of the client or production.

  • Emotional Intelligence. Provide a calming and empowering environment for on-camera talent, performers and subjects, free of drama.

  • Craft Expertise. Deliver reliable, timely, captivating makeup with every stroke and frame.

PRO TIP: Ask a makeup artists what the three most important things are in a makeup department, and what they say. The difference is Prestige.

"Prestige hired, actors become beautiful, wrap happy. Boom done. Repeat." - Justin Rossbacher, Director/Producer

Strategy

A mission is only as successful as it's operating criteria.

  • Attitude. Maintain a positive attitude no matter your perception of circumstance. Productions are often high-energy and demanding, and this can very easily cause tension in the workplace. It's our job to be a solid foundation for the talent and set an example for others.

  • Drive. Self-motivate and create better problems. Limitations are opportunities to expand.

  • Feedback. It’s important in evaluating yourself, but the only thing that’s unique about you is your unique perspective. Which is mutable. So consider feedback, but it’s not your bible.

"It is as much a pleasure to work with Alexander as it is to see and benefit from the fantastic work he does.  In an industry of clashing egos and strong personalities, he is constant, driven, and professional.  It's a pleasure to go into battle with him" - Won Novalis, Editor/Producer

Advantage

Want the advantage? Try these.

  • Understand both what it means to produce and the restrictions therein, and what it takes to deliver an empowered performance as an actor.

  • Understand how to relate to actors and assist them in creating the character they envision, without the drama that frequently comes with the makeup department.

  • Understand how to deliver quality results on a schedule, and work with productions, bringing a detailed understanding of the system.

Understanding how the industry works holistically, how to build trust and share expertise, how to and how to increase your value and consequentially your rates, and you’ll have every critical advantage you’ll ever need.

Cheers.
